TEHRAN (INIC)- The 4th Nanotechnology Festival and Exhibition (Iran Nano 2011) ended work here in Tehran on Sunday after granting a sum of over $600,000 of awards to Iranian experts active in the field of nanotechnology.

The closing ceremony of Iran Nano 2011 was held in the presence of the Science and Technology Deputy of the Presidential Office.

During the ceremony, Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology NasrinSoltankhah voiced pleasure in Irans global position in the field of nanotechnology, and added, "The efforts of all institutes active in the field of nanotechnology has pushed Iran to a higher rank, and I would like to thank them all."

The top 10 researchers, top 3 research institutes, top 3 laboratories, top 3 growth centers, top 5 technologies, and top 5 media were rewarded in this ceremony, according to their activities in the last year (2010-2011).

The top researchers have been shortlisted according to their production of science and technology (including the publication of ISI papers, registration of international patents, and conducting MSc or PhD theses and dissertations).

Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council organizes the Nanotechnology Award Ceremony annually, parallel to the International Nanotechnology Festival and Exhibition. The event is the biggest award ceremony to praise the researchers and knowledge-based companies active in the field of nanotechnology.

Dr. Behzad Ghareyazie, Executive Director of Iran Biotechnology Information Center (IrBIC) was awarded the first place award for the development of the nano-zeolites capable of ethylene removal from storage rooms that results in longer shelf life for horticultural produce. He received this award on behalf of the Middle East Bioresearchers Co.

The top students projects related to nanotechnology were chosen on the last day of the 4th Nanotechnology Festival and Exhibition (Iran Nano 2011) in Nanoclub booth. Thirty one projects were chosen among the student works and entered the contest step. A number of the visitors and guests were impressed by these projects and described them as high quality and beyond their expectations.

Four projects selected as the first position are as follows:

• Electrospinning device
• Polyethylene nanocomposites molecular simulation
• Investigation of nanofluids performance in cooling submarine engines
• Hospital surfaces cleaning emulsion made by nanotechnology

The students’ projects section was a division of Nanoclub in the 4th Nanotechnology Festival and Exhibition. Thirty one student projects related to nanotechnology from different provinces were represented in this section. Nanoclub (founded by INIC) is responsible for teaching technology to the students and seeks to discover young talents and also encourage students in doing more researches in the field of nanotechnology through launching different training courses and holding Student Nanotechnology Olympiads.
