VIB is organizing a scientific symposium on 12 November 2013 in Belgium to mark the 30th anniversary of the first successful introduction of foreign genes into plants. Top speakers from the public and private sector will reflect on the achievements of agrobiotechnology and share their vision on the role of modern plant sciences for a sustainable agriculture.
Some of the top speakers in this symposium:
Marc Van Montagu (the winner of the 2013 World Food Prize), Clive James (Founder and chair of ISAAA), Ingo Potrykus, (Golden Rice Project), Robert Fraley and Barbara Mazur (from Monsanto & Dupont), Richard Roberts (Nobel Prize winner 1993), Mauricio Antonio Lopes (EMBRAPA) and Jiayang Li (Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science).
The day after, a forum will be held to discuss how new technologies can be introduced in developing countries where small farmers need it the most.
