Scientists from Melbourne University in cooperation with Australian biotech company Immuroin Ltd. developed cows milk that protects human cells from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). They vaccinated pregnant cows with an HIV protein and analyzed the first milk produced by the cows after giving birth, which is called colostrum. Colostrum naturally contains antibodies that protect newborns from infections. Results showed that the antibodies from the colostrum bind to HIV and blocks the virus from infecting and entering into human cells. The next step is to develop a cream out of the milk that can be applied by women as protection from HIV.
